I had actually found similar replies on other older threads. However I couldn't believe that this hadn't been fixed as this could be considered a pretty decent blunder. Unless there is some other way to limit this, like on the server, it makes me wonder whether people with heavy email traffic shoul simply stop using the phone to read email.

At my work - on "bad days" I can get upwards of emails - there is never an issue with email traffic and I have an Exchange account. IMAP works well on non exchange accounts keeping everything in sync - so email delete on the Mail client Apple Mail or Outlook would delete it from the server and make it disappear from other devices used to access that email account.

You might need to perform a test, but how long between when you receive as in receive, not when the email was sent the email, and when you disconnect from the internet? Were you able to test it? I ask because my wifi only iPad normally downloads all the email, and it is only if I disconnect from wifi immediately after an email comes in that it doesn't. In fact, normally even images in the emails download. I didn't have the time to test last night, but it's on the list.
