Some will work until you try to uninstall to run another mod and then break your Medieval 2. It all depends on what vanilla files get overwritten when it is not foldered and organized properly. Also be aware, older mods not meant for Steam version need to have the vanilla files unpacked and Creative Assembly removed the unpacker and stopped supporting unpacked games. It can still be done if you are determined, but know the risks. Last edited by HazardHawk ; 4 Nov, pm.

Note that Hyrule Total War pretty much requires you to use the altered launch settings - or at least a seperate copy in a folder named Hyrule with the files. I keep a notepad with the different advanced launch settings for mods.
But my games are on the other drives. After rummaging around the Web, I have found it. So here it is. This does not help us. When you insert the game into a media tray, if you get a popup offering you this or that, close the window. Navigate to your media drive. This folder contains an old version of the installer, just for the original game sans the expansion pack, which will generously let you install to whichever path you want.
Run the setup. Then, you can proceed the good old way. Run the 'original' install, whether by clicking setup. Do not get confused between the two setup. Notice the path in the Address field! Unlike the first time, your game will already have been installed and the Four expansion campaigns will be properly pointed to the right path. Please note that there's no way to change the path anywhere. This is THE problem that originally bothered me.
The only difference between this screenshot and my original attempt is what is says at the bottom of the windows: 4. Of all of the methods for launching mods, this is probably the trickiest. Here's how it's done: 1.
Go to your steam library, find "Medieval 2" right click on it and select properties. Like this [gyazo. When you do, it'll bring up a menu, type this into it: --features.
Click "OK" then exit the tab. The next time you launch medieval 2 normally, it should launch your mod with it. You will have to get rid of the launch options if you want to play normal medieval 2 again. This is a simpler and more well-known strategy for getting mods to work. The steps are quite simple: 1.
Rename one of the kingdoms expansions folders, as an example, get the "americas" folder and rename it to "realamericas" or "thisisamericas". It doesn't matter what you rename it to, as long as you can remember that that's the "americas" folder. Find your mod folder. If you're launching Third Age Reforged it should look something like this [gyazo. Rename your mod folder to "americas" or whichever kingdoms folder you changed the name of.
Now, when you click "PLAY" on medieval 2, select the kingdoms expansion [gyazo. If I renamed it to "teutonic" I would select the teutonic campaign etc. Now you can play your mod. If you want to play the original kingdoms expansion again, you have to rename the mod that your currently using to what it was originally called it doesn't matter if it's the exact name but just call it something you can keep track of , then take the renamed kingdoms expansion folder and rename it to it's original name.
As an example, "realamericas" would become "americas". Smokey 26 Sep am. Voxhales [author] 13 Jan pm. The mods don't have.
